PORTLAND, Ore. — The Oregon Department of Corrections has confirmed the death of Jesse Andre D’Breeze, also known as Jeffrey Paul Cutlip, on Sunday morning, March 29, 2026, at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla. D’Breeze, 76, passed away in the facility’s infirmary while receiving hospice care.
D’Breeze had been serving three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole for the murders of three women in Portland between 1975 and 1993: Marlene Carlson, 44, in 1975; Julie Bennett, 15, in 1977; and Nielene Doll, 33, in 1993. His confessions to these killings, made in 2013 while residing in Brownsville, Texas, provided long-sought closure to families and investigators.
While his passing marks the end of a life defined by violence, it also serves as a reminder of the lasting grief experienced by the victims’ families, the Portland community, and all affected by these crimes. Authorities and members of the public continue to honor the lives of Carlson, Bennett, and Doll, reflecting on the profound impact they had on those who loved them.
The Oregon Department of Corrections confirmed that D’Breeze’s death occurred naturally while in hospice care, and no foul play is suspected. As communities reflect on this chapter of Oregon’s history, the focus remains on remembering the victims and supporting the families whose lives were forever changed.
