OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Oklahoma City community is mourning the tragic loss of Sandra Strampher-Perry, 72, who passed away following a police-involved shooting on Interstate 44 in southwest Oklahoma City. Strampher-Perry, who would have turned 73 on Tuesday, was involved in a series of events that culminated in her death Friday evening.
Authorities reported that the incident began around 8:30 p.m. when Oklahoma County deputies responded to a report of a woman with a firearm at a home on North Council Road near Northwest 164th Street in the Deer Creek area. Deputies instructed Strampher-Perry to put down the weapon, but she left the scene in a pickup truck, initiating a pursuit.
During the chase, officers performed tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) maneuvers on several occasions, including near Northwest 150th Street and Portland Avenue and later on Interstate 44 near Southwest 59th Street. Strampher-Perry collided with another vehicle during the pursuit, injuring an uninvolved bystander. Authorities say she then pointed a firearm at law enforcement officers, prompting officers to discharge their weapons. In total, five troopers, four Oklahoma City police officers, and two Oklahoma County deputies fired during the incident. No law enforcement officers were injured.
Despite the tense circumstances, Sandra Strampher-Perry was fatally shot, leaving family, friends, and the community in mourning. Those who knew her remember her life and legacy, even amidst the tragic circumstances of her passing.
