Woman Found Dead in Parking Lot As Deborah Leyba Arrested in South Bend Fatal Crash

Authorities in South Bend are investigating a fatal parking lot crash that claimed the life of a woman and led to the arrest of Deborah Leyba, 61. The incident has left the community searching for answers as officials work to determine what occurred.

Police say they were called just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to a location along the 3600 block of Edison Road after reports of a woman found unresponsive. First responders arrived and discovered an adult female victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released as authorities continue their investigation and notify family members.

In the hours that followed, investigators worked to identify a vehicle believed to be connected to the crash. Their efforts led to the discovery of the vehicle and the subsequent arrest of Leyba, who was taken into custody without resistance and booked into the St. Joseph County Jail.

She is currently awaiting formal charges from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office. The county’s Fatal Crash Team remains actively involved in the case, seeking to clarify the events that led to the tragedy.
