David Wayne Lay Obituary, Oconee County Death: Westminster Man Dies in Hit-and-Run Incident

Authorities have confirmed the identity of a Westminster man who lost his life in a hit-and-run accident early Tuesday morning in Oconee County, South Carolina.

The Oconee County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 63-year-old David Wayne Lay. He sustained severe injuries in a collision involving a vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:55 a.m. along the eastbound lanes of Highway 76/123 (Sandifer Boulevard), near Seed Farm Road, just outside Westminster. Officials reported that the driver involved in the crash fled the scene.

Lay’s body was discovered by a deputy from the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office during a routine patrol. Investigators believe he was walking in the direction of Seneca at the time of the حادثة.

An autopsy will be conducted to further document his injuries and support the ongoing investigation. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is leading the case and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
