The Gaithersburg community is mourning the tragic loss of 20-year-old De’Andre Thomas, who died following a motorcycle crash on Monday evening.
Authorities reported that the collision occurred around 5:30 p.m. on the southbound side of Interstate 270, between Montgomery Village Avenue and I-370 near Muddy Branch Road. Thomas was riding his motorcycle when he became involved in a serious crash. Emergency responders arrived quickly and attempted to provide aid, but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident led to the temporary closure of multiple lanes on southbound I-270, causing significant traffic delays during the evening commute. At approximately 6:06 p.m., Alert Montgomery issued a severe traffic advisory indicating that four left lanes were closed near Muddy Branch Road.
Maryland State Police, along with the Maryland State Highway Administration, remain involved in the ongoing investigation. At this time, officials have not released further details regarding the cause of the crash.
