PERRY COUNTY, Ala. — The Perry County community is grieving the tragic and senseless loss of Erika Latavia Latham, 26, of Reform, who was fatally shot early Sunday morning.
According to authorities, Uniontown police were dispatched just after 1 a.m. to the 200 block of Water Avenue following reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found Latham deceased at the scene, leaving family, friends, and neighbors in profound grief.
The investigation was led by the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation, with support from the Uniontown Police Department and the Perry County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities have identified 33‑year‑old Deandre Brandell Langhorne of Uniontown as the suspect in the fatal shooting. Langhorne has been charged with manslaughter and was booked into the Perry County Jail on Monday afternoon, where he remains in custody. Officials have not released additional details, including a motive.
Uniontown Police Chief Mike Kiser expressed sympathy for all those affected, saying, “We are praying for the loved ones and friends affected by this tragedy. This violence is senseless and has no place in our society.”
Latham’s sudden and violent death has left an enduring sense of loss among her family, friends, and the broader community. She is remembered as a cherished daughter, friend, and member of the community whose life was taken far too soon.
