The community of Pinellas Park, Florida, is reflecting with heavy hearts following the tragic loss of 39-year-old Ryan Lecompt, whose life ended after a tense and deeply distressing incident on Briar Ridge Court. What began as a reported disturbance late Tuesday morning escalated into a prolonged standoff with law enforcement, ultimately resulting in a fatal encounter that has left family members, neighbors, and the wider community grappling with grief and unanswered questions.
According to the Pinellas Park Police Department, the situation unfolded around 11:30 a.m. when a local landscaper reported a frightening confrontation. The worker described an alarming interaction in which Lecompt allegedly exited his residence multiple times, shouting and carrying a firearm. During one encounter, the landscaper reported that the weapon was pointed directly at him, prompting immediate fear for his safety. He quickly left the area and contacted authorities.
When officers arrived, the situation intensified. Lecompt had retreated into his home and barricaded himself inside, declining repeated attempts at communication. Law enforcement officials, along with members of his family—including his ex-wife and adult son—reportedly made efforts to reach him, hoping to resolve the situation peacefully. Despite these attempts, there was no response, and tensions continued to rise.
Authorities also indicated there was probable cause for Lecompt’s arrest in connection with an alleged domestic battery incident involving his ex-wife the week prior. This development added urgency and complexity to an already volatile situation, as officers worked carefully to assess the risks and ensure public safety.
The department’s SWAT team was eventually deployed, implementing measures intended to bring the situation to a safe conclusion. Using specialized equipment, including an armored vehicle and a drone, officers attempted to gain visibility and access inside the home. However, in a sudden and critical moment, Lecompt reportedly appeared armed at the doorway and pointed a shotgun toward officers on the scene.
Perceiving an immediate threat, two officers discharged their weapons, striking him. Lecompt was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he was later pronounced dead.
